How to: Configure modem dialing options.
Solution:
Click 'Dialing Properties' on the 'General' tab of the 'Modems Properties' dialog box. Select the location and adjust the properties for that location.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select the 'Settings' menu and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)

3) Double-click the 'Modems' icon. (The 'Modems Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'General' tab.
5) Select the modem from the list.
6) Click 'Dialing Properties'. (The 'Dialing Properties' dialog box appears.)
7) Do one of the following:
a) Select an existing location from the 'I am dialing from' drop-down list box.
b) If no locations exist:
1] Click 'New...'. (The 'Create New Location' dialog box appears.)
2] Type a name for the location in the 'Create a new location name' box.
3] Click 'OK'.
8) Type the local area code.
9) Select the country from the 'I am in' drop-down list box.
10) If necessary, type the number to access a local outside line.
11) If necessary, type the number required to access long distance.
12) (Optional) Use a credit card to pay for the call:
a) Select the 'Dial using Calling Card' check box in the 'How I dial from this location' group. (The 'Change Calling Card' dialog box appears.)
b) Do one of the following:

1] Use a defined calling card type by selecting the calling card type from the 'Calling Card to use' drop-down list box.
2] Create a new calling card type:
a] Click 'New...'. (The 'Create New Calling Card' dialog box appears.)
b] Type a name for the calling card in the 'Create a new calling card named' box.

c] Click 'OK'.
d] Click 'Advanced...' to define the dialing rules. (The 'Dialing Rules' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: Dialing rules can be defined from scratch or copied from a previously-defined card and then customized as needed.
e] Click 'Close' to close the 'Dialing Rules' dialog box.
f] Click 'OK' to accept the new calling card.
13) If necessary, select the 'This location has call waiting' check box and select the correct setting to disable it.
14) Select the radio button appropriate to the type of dialing that the phone system uses.
15) Click 'OK' to close the 'Dialing Properties' dialog box.
16) Click 'OK' to close the 'Modems Properties' dialog box.
